LEARNING
EXCURSIONS
What can your group do during a visit to Science
Station? A lot! We have field trip options to fit
nearly every schedule and budget.
Museum Visit: Explore our four exhibit galleries,
stocked with over 100 hands-on science exhibits.
Your students will have so much fun they won’t
realize they’re learning! We suggest you allow 2
hours for a Museum visit.
Educational Programs: Take learning to the next
level with an educational workshop. Our programs
inspire students to explore science by providing
content-rich, hands-on activities. Multiple topics,
including programs to complement our featured IMAX®
film, are available for students aged preschool
through high school. Programs are 45 minutes in
length; groups larger than 25 students may require
more time.
IMAX® Dome Theatre: Wow your senses and expand
your mind in the McLeod/Busse IMAX® Dome Theatre.
Come face-to-face with chimpanzees, fly like a
daredevil, or take a trip to the land down under.
The 50' x 60' screen and 10,000 watt digital sound
system make you feel like you’re in the center of
the action. IMAX® film presentations are
approximately 45 minutes in length; groups exceeding
170 people will require additional time.
Packages including any combination of these three
options are available.
Reservations are required. Reservations and
payment are required in advance. Early booking for
spring dates is strongly recommended. See below for
details on making a reservation. MAKING A RESERVATION
WHERE DO I START?
A simple step-by-step guide to arranging your trip.
- Read through this guide to familiarize yourself with the field
trip options.
- Determine what your timeframe is and what you would like to
accomplish while you are here. Will you be taking a class, viewing
a film, etc.?
- Call our reservation office at (319) 363-4629 ext. 30 or email
[email protected] to reserve
the date, arrival time, IMAX® show time, and specified class.
Please be prepared to let us know the show/class times and number
of students and chaperones attending.
- Visit our web site at www.sciencestation.org
to access museum and film information, and download the current
educator’s guide.
- Within one week, you will receive your confirmation letter.
Check it carefully, sign it and return by mail prior to your visit.
Be sure to review any additional inserts such as your bus parking
map.
- Make payment arrangements with your school business office in
order to assure your payment is received before your arrival date.
Make sure to call our reservation office prior to sending your
payment to make any necessary changes to your number of guests.
All reservations must be paid a minimum of one week before your
arrival date to receive your group discount. We are not able to
make adjustments the day of your visit.
- If you are viewing the IMAX® or taking a class first during
your visit, you will want to arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled
time in order to check in. No late seating is taken in the IMAX®
theatre and refunds for missed show times are not given. Science
Station does not guarantee classes for late arrivals.
- When you arrive, gather your group in the lobby area. Select
one representative from your group to check in with our box office
staff. You will be given directions from one of our staff on where
to assemble your group and you will receive your tickets and admission
passes at this time.
- Enjoy your visit! Now it’s time to explore, discover,
test and create! Make sure all chaperones have reviewed their
suggestion sheet on how to get the most out of your experience
at Science Station. Most important, have fun while learning!
