Welcome To The Science Station

The Science Station is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and features over 100 hands-on exhibits on a variety of topics including electricity, magnets, sound, light, optical illusions, flight, computers, dinosaurs, bubbles, the human body, heat, simple machines, and the solar system.

The exhibits are challenging and fun for any age or science background. The museum has over 12,000 square feet of exhibit space and visitors can spend 2 hours exploring the collection.

Summer Camp registrations are taken by mail and in-person at the front desk.  Some popular classes are filling rapidly, so sign up soon!  Vet Tech, Icky Sticky Slimy Science (6/16 AM), Playing with Food, Jr. Vet (PM), Ocean Explorers (AM), It's Magic, Masterpieces, Rock Hounds, and Robot Challenge are already full.

	Van Allen Artifacts on Exhibit Dr. James Van Allen of the University of Iowa was a pioneer in the field of early space exploration. Our newest traveling lobby exhibit features artifacts and space flight hardware from Explorer, Mariner, and Pioneer missions, including those which led to the discovery of radiation belts now named for Van Allen. Also on display is a model of a satellite built at the University of Iowa that was launched into space in 1974 and returned in 1978. Exhibit on display through May.

	Changes Ahead for Alliant Gallery During May, expect some changes to the Alliant Energy Gallery. Some of your favorite exhibits, including the Earthquake Cafe, the Bridge of Fire, and the Touch Spectrum have been relocated. The gallery will undergo a facelift in anticipation of some great new exhibits coming soon, thanks to the support of generous individual and corporate donors. We hope to have the first of these exhibits in place by June, the beginning of our busy summer season. Watch this webspace for continued updates!
